In this script, we will discuss Power Electronics, In this blog, we will discuss
- The two-transistor model can be used to describe the characteristics of a thyristor.

The latching action due to positive feedback can be demonstrated using a two-transistor modal of the thyristor. A thyristor can be considered as two complementary transistors, one PNP -transistor, Q1, and another NPN-transistor, Q2, as shown in the figure.
Shown in figure the basic structure and Equivalent circuit shown in 2nd figure .
- A thyristor is a four-layer semiconductor device of PNPN structure.
- Three junctions are J1,J2 and J3.
- It has three terminal Anode, Cathode and Gate
- A thyristor can be considered as two complete transistor PNP and NPN.
- Thyristors are semiconductor devices that can operate only in the switching mode.
- Thyristor are current operated devices, a small Gate current controls a larger Anode current.
- Conducts current only when forward biased and triggering current applied to the Gate
